The double-edged sword!
I picked up your podcast on my way to lead my first section of the AT for some first time backpackers. I have been an avid backpacker/hiker for some time and am finally in a position to take others with me. As we were making our drive from Texas to Springer Mt., your words helped to fuel their excitement (as well as my own). Thanks for all your work! Although, I am now wrestling with a growing desire to consider my own long walk in the woods.
Love it.
I have followed this man since the early episodes. I feel i have walked every step with him. I don't hurt as much as he does at the end of the episode, but i've had a great hike. Love it. Learned a bunch from it for my own hiking. With 650 miles of the AzT done, i'm going for the last 150+. It's taken me 5 years to get this far due to being a bit slow. After all I'm 74. I pray the day will come when i can do a thru hike like the AT. Right now I'm looking at the CDT which passes my house only 65 miles away. Keep trudging, Might Blue.
Excellent interviewer
I think Steve is great. It's wonderful listening to the podcast evolve. New topics and interesting people. Nice job Steve you should be proud
Loving vicariously through you!
My son thru-hiked in 2016 (Tarzan- stay stoked!) and is on the trail again this year for a 40 day "vacation" so I love reading or listening to everything AT. I am thoroughly enjoying this podcast and look forward to each episode. I am happy for you, Steve, that you can still be involved with the trail in this way and wish you all the best on your hikes this summer. Thanks for bringing us (the listeners) along and making us feel part of the family too. :-)
Good Podcast
Hi Stephen, I'm writing to let you know that I really love your show. I first heard about you from Glenn the geek from the horse radio network. When you finally were on his show I decided that I just had to check out your podcast for myself. I am on episode number seven and I'm really really enjoying everyone's take on their hike of the trail. Every episode that I've listen to so far has made me want to go and hike the Appalachian Trail. Good luck and happy trails in the future.
Inspirational
I look forward to and enjoy each episode. Each listen fuels my desire to hike the AT. Excellent podcast! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and others on the AT.
Mighty Blue is Mighty Good
Having hiked The AT for 25 years and about 1,400 miles, I have grown to love AT Hiker culture. Like the famous 6 blind men trying to describe an elephant, podcasts such as Mighty Blue's are Mighty Helpful in answering the Why am I hiking this stretch of dirt question. Mighty Blue does an excellent job of telling his AT story and that of many other AT hikers. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around IronWill, an AT hikerette that completed a thru- hike with no legs. She's more of a man than I will ever be. In spite of his English accent but because of his choice of verbiage, this is a podcast well worth your time if you are hiking The AT or even considering it. Hidden Gem
Steve, it was by luck that I came across your podcast and I am so grateful! I find that not only are you a good story teller but the stories and full of great information and often times funny. I don't look forward getting to the end making me wait weekly to hear a new episode. I enjoy listening every day. I do have one question. I often hear people say " when I got my hiker legs" what the are they? Did I miss the definition in an earlier episode? Thanks again for doing what you do :) Megan
Extraordinary!!

It's FANTASTIC. Your a BLOODY great BLOKE. Keep up the good work. CHEERS
Brings Back Good Memories
I feel like I'm hiking the trail again when I listen to this podcast. I enjoy how honest Mighty Blue is about his life both on and off of the trail. Keep them coming. I will keep listening. Trail Name: Coal Furnance
Completely hooked
I'm completely hooked on this podcast and haven't stopped listening to it since I found it. Not looking forward to getting to the end and having to wait until the next one is released. I have been infatuated with everything related to hiking the AT for a while and Steve does a great job discussing his first hand knowledge of the trail and keeps it interesting by having great guests and reading from his book. Bloody great job!
My Favorite Podcast
I discovered this podcast after reading Steve's first book. What a treat! I listen while I train for our AT section hikes. Steve is a natural and does something rarely heard from interviewers with much more experience. He let's his guests speak! Very entertaining!
Nickname for Jessa
I am one of the three cousins of Jessa Hackman. That whole story was true, about crop dusting. But here's a real nickname.... Rusty. For her hair color.
Superb
Keep up the excellent work Mighty Blue. I just can't get enough of the AT after spending 800 miles on the trail in 2016. Makes me long to be back out there more and more with every new episode. Thank you so much.
Honest, informative, and very entertaining!
I stumbled onto this podcast with a random search for "Appalachian" and was delighted to see this new series. I downloaded and listened to the first episode and was hooked, immediately downloaded all the other episodes and have been working through them. Great information and entertaining guests, with a truly inspiring amount of honesty about the personal changes brought on by an AT thru hike. And as a bonus, every episode closes with another chapter from Steve's book - overall, hugely entertaining.
Excellent Trail Tales
I stumbled across this podcast while preparing for an upcoming section hike on the AT. I was immediately drawn in. Steve ("Mighty Blue") has an inviting, none judgmental attitude to backpacking that makes for great listening. The variety of guests he has provides for a wide range of perspectives and insights about what it is like to hike on the Appalachian Trail. I’d recommend this to anyone planning their own hike or just interested in backpacking in general.
Our New Favorite Podcast
Steve, Pam and I have have listened to all of your podcasts so far and eagerly await Thursdays to get your next one. As we are busily planning for our walk this year, the information you and guests provide is invaluable. I love the format and how it's evolving. Keep up the great work! P.S. I especially enjoy your reading excerpts from your book.
Love it!
This is such an entertaining podcast. I look forward to each new download. Keep them coming!
Enjoy!!!
Such a wonderful podcast!
Not a hiker - still LOVE it!
This is an interesting and entertaining podcast even if you do not currently hike or ever have the intention of hiking. (I do work outside with horses 365 days a year, but don't technically "hike") Steve's adventures and struggles are real. He is very honest about his life before and after the AT. Thank you for sharing this life changing event with a very candid look into your revelations about your past, present and future. Thanks to Glenn the Geek and the Horse Radio Network for introducing me to Mighty Blue.
KeithVG class of 2017
First heard of Mighty Blue through a Facebook page related to the AT. I was hooked from the first episode. Steve is a very gifted storyteller. Whenever I get nervous about the upcoming adventure, I just play another episode of the podcast. I soon get excited rather than nervous and can't wait for the hike to begin!
FANFREAKINGTASTIC!!!!!
I discovered your podcast on January 13 and as of today (the 18th) Just finished episode 14 where you interviewed Dixie. I was a litle waery at first as hiking and podcasting seems to be a really niche thing that could go bad quickly. I was engaged immediately. Your style is great! I love the interviews and your following audobook chapters make for a great listen! Please keep up the great work as we all lookforward to many more episodes. One quick suggestion, As many hikers are, I'm kindof a gear junkie. I would love to hear some gear reviews from both you and your guests. Keep up the great work!
Bloody good!
Steve - or I should say, Mighty Blue - is filling a need. The ebst podcast for covering things AT and long distance hiking. I know its hard to carry on week to week, so I hope you perserver at least until I leave on my 2018 thru-hike next February. Again, well done and bloody good.
Excellent podcast not just on doing a through hike but life as well
Hi Mighty Blue- I have listened to all of the episodes and look forward to hearing all future podcasts. I found you by chance while looking for something to listen to on my daily 5 mile morning walks and so glad I did. Doing a through hike is on the bucket list and not sure if I will ever get to do it as I know I will be working for another few years (sixty currently) but you are helping make me realize that it is possible. I am going to send you an email as I would love to pick your brain further. Btw I picked my trail name if I do it - OldCaddie. My love of walking came as a result of my first job lugging golf clubs. I understand you know something about that.
